Mal’s playing career began with Northamptonshire CCC as a right hand top order batsman with his first international honours coming when he was selected for the England U19 squad. Mal’s One Day International debut came in 2007 where he famously swept Brett Lee for six.
In 1998, he was named the Professional Cricketers’ Association Cricketer of the Year. Mal moved to Lancashire CCC in 2003 where he played a vital role in their Championship title in 2005 by being the county’s leading run scorer of 1,198.
Mal has over twenty years of worldwide coaching experience from grass roots to international level. Since retiring in 2011, he has coached overseas in Natal as well as within the English Independent School sector, leading the cricket departments of Wellingborough and Oundle School. Mal is currently the Bangladesh One Day High Performance National Coach where he will prepare the next set of senior cricketers for the Bangladesh side.
