Local Businesses Celebrate the Magic of the Olympics & Paralympics by Supporting Local Charity Through Sales

The Mintridge Foundation knows only too well the magic and energy that the Olympic and Paralympic Games bring through their team of sporting role models and despite the Covid – 19 restrictions of the Tokyo Games, we were determined that this year would be no different.

Without travelling to the beautiful country of Japan ourselves, we wanted to look at new ways to celebrate the joy that individual and team successes bring (as well as waking up at unearthly hours to watch Team Mintridge Ambassadors take to their stage, obviously…) and that’s when the King’s Head at Wadenhoe and Holly Lodge Café stepped in.

Before we delve into the magnificent support that they gave us which together raised over £600, we want to share a little more about our Team Mintridge Tokyo Superheroes…

Shona McCallin MBE kickstarted the Mintridge medal tally with a bronze medal in the Women’s Olympic Hockey to add to her Rio Gold before Dan Powell, Emma Wiggs MBE and Laura Sugar had even hit the Paralympic Village! Here, Dan finished 7th in the visually impaired judo tournament while Emma and Laura made their way to the Sea Forest Waterway to bring home 2 Gold Medals and a Silver between them. Not bad at all Team Mintridge!

To learn more about the Paralympic classifications, head to our recent blog post, just here.

Ok, ok, we digressed a little, but it was for good reason, right? These athletes will now be taking their stories of resilience and triumph into schools across the UK to help and support the physical and mental wellbeing of young people thanks to the generosity of both Holly Lodge and the King’s Head. Here’s how these valuable funds were raised…

From 23rd July through to 9th August, The King’s Head at Wadenhoe added some Specials to their regular menu aptly named “Olympic Champion Meals”. For every Olympic Panini, Olympic Burger, Olympic Cake, Olympic Gin & Tonic and Olympic Pizza sold, 50p was donated to the Mintridge Foundation. Not only, this but our trustee, Tara Belcher was the winner of the free flowing G&T Afternoon Tea raffle which she will enjoy overlooking the River Nene in the East Northamptonshire countryside.

Thank you very much to Andrea and the King’s Head team, we can’t wait to work with you in the future for more fundraising fun. It was such a delight to see our 2018 Anna Horrell Award winner working at Wadenhoe and highlighting to customers exactly where the funding goes! Thank you Bayleigh, you are a superstar!

While the country recovered from the excitement of 65 medals from Team GB during the Olympic fortnight, this gave the Mintridge and Holly Lodge teams time to hatch their special plans to follow on from the success in Wadenhoe for the Paralympics; Lucy, Emily and the team did not disappoint! Dog Friendly, Holly Lodge Café offered Paralympic Champion cakes & hot drinks from 26th August through to 5th September which meant two things:

1)      The Mintridge Foundation received 30p from every sale which was fantastic in itself.

2)      The Mintridge Foundation team spent every moment that they could at the café as they now had an excuse to delve into the highly sought-after white chocolate and raspberry cakes!

Local cyclists that now organise their Strava routes around a compulsory stop off at Holly Lodge were also overjoyed to see a massage gun on offer in the Café raffle thanks to our partners at Recovapro.  Well done to Larry Barns on your success, and if you weren’t the lucky winner this time, head over to the Recovapro website and if you enter the code “Mintridge”, you will receive a discount too!

Wow, what a way to end our summer months, thank you to everyone involved. If your small business would like to support our small but mighty charity, we have an idea for you but we don’t want to scare you off by mentioning the Christmas word… Ok, here goes anyway, would you like to join Mintridge with their #SmallBusinessStar Advent Calendar following the success of 2020? Profit and purpose, what’s not to love?

We would like to work alongside 24 small businesses to select a single day between 1st and 24th December.

It is £20.21 to purchase a door and on your chosen day:

The Mintridge Foundation will shout from the roof tops about the amazing work that you do (to our supporters, Ambassadors and through all of our online channels). This will be hidden initially behind Minty’s closed doors.

Set your goal; how do you as a business want to #GiveBack?

For example, you could pledge a proportion of your sales from your product or service on your chosen day. This is exactly what our Nutrition Partners at Nibble Protein will be doing on 2nd December with anyone that uses the code “Minty15” at checkout. They have also generously donated a yummy but nutritious box of healthy brownies for one of Minty’s lucky supporters to enjoy.

If you would like to understand more about our mentoring programmes with elite athletes and how they can support the young people at your school or club, please contact Katie Smith.

If you are considering supporting the Mintridge Foundation as a business, organisation or as an individual, head to our SUPPORT US page below.

The Mintridge Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to enhancing life skills in young people through sport. We provide a support network for young people by harnessing the power of positive sporting role models. The Mintridge Foundation assists young people of all ages, abilities and physical capabilities to develop confidence and resilience, and creates awareness of the importance of mental and physical wellbeing through sport.

Our team of Ambassadors  - Olympians, Paralympians and other professional sports stars from over 20 sports, both team and individual - work with young people in schools, clubs and academies across the UK. Starting with visits including assemblies, coaching clinics and classroom sessions tailored to each organisation’s requirements, our ambassadors can then provide one- on- one remote mentoring in a safeguarded environment, delivered via technology such as Fitswarm and Playwaze to build a lasting legacy for individuals.

The Mintridge Foundation’s successes demonstrate the incredible power of sport; from a mentee’s selection to represent Great Britain in their chosen field to enabling disabled children to find confidence and happiness just through participation. Understanding life after sport, we also support our Ambassadors in their transition from active sport to the next stage of their careers.
