Time To Talk Day 2021 with the Royal Agricultural University & SportSpiel #28NOTOUT
Time To Talk Day is a campaign run by Time to Change to change the way that people think and act about mental health.
The theme of open communication is paramount to the Mintridge Foundation in all that we deliver to champion individuals to acknowledge their feelings (both positive and negative) through working with elite athlete sporting role models.
As part of our 28 Not Out Campaign for the Max Hunter Fund, Team Mintridge Ambassadors, Wales & GB Olympic Trap Shooter, Georgina Roberts and Northampton Saints Rugby Player, George Furbank teamed up with SportSpiel & the Royal Agricultural University for a special edition of the SportSpiel podcast to look deeper into this topic and encourage a new dialogue around how to look after our mental health just as we do our physical.
A small conversation about mental health has the power to make a BIG difference, and particularly during this difficult time with the Covid – 19 pandemic, this is more important than ever. Feeling isolated is very normal, particularly for students who might have very different living arrangements, a changed structure and support base, so we are grateful to George and Georgie for sharing their insights from the sporting world that transcends into all of our lives.
We have found that it’s not always as simple as “opening up”, so be aware of this when starting these important conversations. What we do want to encourage is for everyone to acknowledge their feelings on a regular basis to increase self awareness and above all, self care. One way that #TeamMintridge does just this is through a Moodbeam, a wearable device that captures your feelings at the push of a button (if you use the code FIVEMINT5 at the checkout, you will get a discount).
Thank you very much to George, Georgie, Alasdair, Will, Lewis and Charlie for starting the conversation on #TimeToTalk Day and let’s challenge those perceptions and stereotypes. Lewis and Charlie added great clarity on the availability of support for Cirencester students which can be found just here.
If you would like more information on the Mintridge Foundation mentoring support, or if you would access to Believe Perform (the world’s leading source of performance psychology, well-being and mental health content for the sport community), please contact Alex Wallace for further information.
