Mintridge Foundation Runners Lead The Way at the London Landmarks Half Marathon

As a sports charity at the Mintridge Foundation, you might think it’s an obvious thing when we say that we simply LOVE seeing people getting active, challenging themselves and having fun but we never, ever get bored of shouting about it, because it is important for both mental and physical fitness.  According to Coach Mag, a study on 14,000 people undertaken by Asics during the pandemic has found that 82% of UK runners say running helps to clear their mind, and 78% feel more sane and in control as a result of running. With this in mind, we always JUMP for joy when getting involved with the London Landmarks Half Marathon, London’s central half marathon through Westminster and the City as we know that our wonderful supporters are not only help raising valuable funds for us here at the Mintridge Foundation, but they are also looking after themselves.

We were delighted to have such a strong team at the start line in early April 2022 but we were sorry to lose Adam to Covid – 19 (we will be supporting him take on a half marathon later in the year, that is for sure). Thank you very much to Emily Walton, Judy Faint, Louise Lazell, Alice Cunningham, Elliot Hawkins, Alasdair Hooper and Peter Speight who were all running for different reasons but came together to raise over £3,000! This is an incredible figure given the challenges that we are facing as a small charity as we see the long term impact of the pandemic take hold. To our runners, to their supporters, thank you. Your support will help us hugely.

Alasdair, your support of the Mintridge Foundation is non – stop. Two half marathons, a live panel event and countless podcasts on SportSpiel. What is next? You know where to find us for inspiration…

Peter, as an Olympian, your platform is huge and you have used your platform in the most positive way as you inspire so many around you. We definitely saw that competitive spirit shine through between miles 3 and 4 too, once an Olympian, always an Olympian! We heard that there were lots of twists and turns around the course, but maybe not quite the ones you are used to…

Thank you very much to the fantastic team at London Landmarks, your support is something that we will never forget as you help us maximise the opportunity of your stunning and spectacular race. Our Cheer Station at St. Paul’s Cathedral was fantastic to be able to see Team Mintridge whizz past us but we also loved seeing other runners taking on the 13.1 miles for their heads, for their hearts and for the causes close to them. We loved seeing Harry Judd and Vassos Alexander run past as we were celebrity spotting; two individuals that have used their status for their greatest social impact which we love!

Roll on the 2023 London Landmarks! We just LOVE it!

The Mintridge Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to enhancing life skills in young people through sport. We provide a support network for young people by harnessing the power of positive sporting role models. The Mintridge Foundation assists young people of all ages, abilities and physical capabilities to develop confidence and resilience, and creates awareness of the importance of mental and physical wellbeing through sport.

Our team of Ambassadors  - Olympians, Paralympians and other professional sports stars from over 20 sports, both team and individual - work with young people in schools, clubs and academies across the UK. Starting with visits including assemblies, coaching clinics and classroom sessions tailored to each organisation’s requirements, our ambassadors can then provide one- on- one remote mentoring in a safeguarded environment, delivered via technology to build a lasting legacy for individuals.

The Mintridge Foundation’s successes demonstrate the incredible power of sport; from a mentee’s selection to represent Great Britain in their chosen field to enabling disabled children to find confidence and happiness just through participation. Understanding life after sport, we also support our Ambassadors in their transition from active sport to the next stage of their careers.

If you would like to understand more about our mentoring programmes with elite athletes and how they can support the young people at your school or club, please contact Katie Smith.
