Sprinkling Some Sugar At Ingoldsby Academy: Laura Sugar MBE Leads A Sporting Day of Fun To Mark Team Mintridge's 700th Programme

On a warm and breezy day in Lincolnshire, Ingoldsby Academy was buzzing with anticipation.
The students were excited about spending a day with Double Palalympic Gold Medallist and Mintridge Ambassador, Laura Sugar MBE to mark the Mintridge Foundation’s 700th Programme.
Despite Laura’s two gold medals being in KL3 200m Paracanoe - Laura also competed at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games in Athletics and she also competed for Wales in non disabled hockey too! There aren’t many sports that Laura can’t do!
Laura started the day with athletics for the younger students in the school where pupils got to try sprint drills and a mini relay race. During lunch, Laura spent some time with pupils where she was interviewed about the life of an elite athlete. We were very impressed with some of the interviewing techniques as students looked like complete naturals behind the microphone.
After lunch, it was back into the sunshine for some hockey coaching. With sticks in hand and cones set up across the playground, students practiced dribbling, passing and shooting under Laura’s expert eye as everyone looks ahead to the DRET Summer Cup on 3rd July. Another athletics session soon followed before Laura shared her journey in an assembly with the whole school. The children listened as she spoke about resilience, hard work and the importance of always saying ‘yes’. She even had her medals with her and the Press Team from earlier in the day were lucky enough to be asked to hold the medals so that all the children leaving the assembly were able to touch and hold some shiny gold!
Laura was presented with a beautiful bunch of flowers and a BIG thank you card that the children had prepared during the day.
Back outside for the final hockey coaching session before Laura presented her ParalympicsGB baseball cap to one very lucky student for her commitment throughout the day.
As the day drew to a close, the children waved goodbye to their new heroine, clutching signed autograph cards that Laura had presented them all with throughout the day.
Questions throughout the day included:
“What made you love sport?”
“Who is your role model?”
“How tall are you?”
“What challenges did you face when you began your career?”
Thank you Laura for sharing your story and your skills with Ingoldsby Academy and thank you to Ingoldsby Academy for the very warm welcome that Team Mintridge received.
