Grace Harrison welcomes the Limitless Ambassadors to their role as part of a very special Mintridge presentation and Q&A programme.

Mintridge and Limitless Presentation Programme with the Limitless Ambassadors

“Enjoy every moment on your journey as you never know when you might get that opportunity again!”

What a way to kickstart the Limitless Ambassador programme!

As the leading sports clothing provider for independent schools up and down the country, Limitless is enhancing the lives of thousands of young people across the country by providing them with the best possible options when performing in their sports. The Mintridge Foundation has an ongoing partnership with Limitless as we share similar values and are both aiming to enhance and support the lives of young people, not only in sport but in their lives outside of sport too.

That’s why we were delighted to welcome the Limitless Ambassadors to their programme this week with our amazing and inspirational former Commonwealth Games gymnast, Grace Harrison. Although we brought everyone together virtually, the Limitless Ambassadors engaged really well with each other and Grace during their presentation and took this opportunity to learn more from Grace about how to perform at the highest level and what they can do in their own lives to take control of what is Infront of them and enjoy every moment.

“If I wanted to be an elite athlete, I needed to commit and do more and be better. I was always the last one to arrive and the first to leave the gym and that needed to change.”

With young athletes from lots of different sports on the call with Grace, we were very excited for them to hear some of Grace’s top tips that she shared with them, so they could hopefully use them on their own paths to success.

Grace was able to show the Ambassadors some brilliant footage of her competing at the Commonwealth Games and also the highs and lows of competing at that level during her journey. Like many success stories, the road to success isn’t always smooth and Grace shared some important lessons and messages with the Ambassadors about overcoming setbacks, nerves and how to cope under pressure, no matter where they are.

“I always tried to focus on myself and what I could do, as I was the only person in the gym that knew how hard I had worked and the extra hours I had put in to get to where I needed to be. Although the setbacks are hard, you have to bounce back and push through those times as the rewards are worth it.”

We were delighted that the Limitless Ambassadors were inspired by Grace’s journey and asked some brilliant questions at the end of the presentation. Some of the best questions from our evening were:

How did you deal with nerves?

What did you do when people were doubting you?

Have you ever faced criticism from people in gymnastics or your friends and how did you deal with that?

Did you take part in any other sports other than gymnastics?

If you had one message for your younger self, what would it be?

How did you manage to stay positive during your injury?

What is your greatest achievement?

How did you balance your sport and exam commitments?

We hope that we are able to visit the Limitless Ambassadors in person in the future, but in the meantime, Grace has left the audience with lots to think about and tips to help them with their own individual journeys.

We are extremely grateful to our partners at Limitless who supported this programme and organised this evening with us for their Limitless Ambassadors. The Mintridge Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to enhancing life skills in young people through sport. We provide a support network for young people by harnessing the power of positive sporting role models. The Mintridge Foundation assists young people of all ages, abilities, and physical capabilities to develop confidence and resilience, and creates awareness of the importance of mental and physical wellbeing through sport.

Our team of Ambassadors - Olympians, Paralympians and other professional sports stars from over 20 sports, both team and individual - work with young people in schools, clubs and academies across the UK. Starting with visits including assemblies, coaching clinics and classroom sessions tailored to each organisation’s requirements, our ambassadors can then provide one- on- one remote mentoring in a safeguarded environment, delivered via technology such as FitSwarm and Playwaze to build a lasting legacy for individuals.

The Mintridge Foundation’s successes demonstrate the incredible power of sport; from a mentee’s selection to represent Great Britain in their chosen field to enabling disabled children to find confidence and happiness just through participation. Understanding life after sport, we also support our Ambassadors in their transition from active sport to the next stage of their careers.
