"Always be the best version of yourself!"- The students at Godolphin School meet England Netball legend, Pamela Cookey, during our Bronze netball programme

“My final message to you is to always be the best version of yourself. Focus on what you need to do to be the best athlete and person you can be and love yourself because there will always be someone else who loves who you are too!”

Following a really successful celebration of their sports awards in the summer, which unfortunately needed to be streamed remotely, the students at Godolphin School were excited to finally meet England Netball legend, Pamela Cookey in person for our Bronze Limitless netball programme.

Thanks to our partners at Limitless, The Mintridge Foundation were able to visit Godolphin School and work with their sports students to help inspire them on their own journeys to success, but also to provide some key learnings and top tips for them to be successful in their sports, and in school too.

Having been there and done it herself, Pamela was the perfect person to talk to the students about how they can manage their time, their sporting schedules and other commitments to get the best out of every situation.

During our visit, Pamela shared some of the main highlights of her netball career so far and also the opportunities that she has gained through sport. It was reassuring for the students to hear more about the positives that have come from some of Pamela’s negative setbacks throughout her career. Stressing the importance to the students about the need to communicate with everyone they are working with, Pamela was able to explain to the students how her support network supported her on her own England Netball journey.

 As part of the first part of their programme, the students asked Pamela some brilliant questions after her presentation, which we hope helped them in their own journeys. Some of the best questions were;

Do you get to keep all of your kit?

What was your greatest highlight?

Do you have any regrets?

How did you manage your time with your sport and business?

If you hadn’t chosen netball as your main sport, what would you have done?

How did you choose netball over your other sports?

The netballers at Godolphin School also had the chance to take part in a brilliant netball session led by Pamela herself and challenge themselves to be better attackers during their netball session.

Thank you very much to the staff at Godolphin School for welcoming Team Mintridge and Pamela to deliver this amazing programme with your students.

We are extremely grateful to our partners at Limitless who supported this programme and continue to support young people in the schools they work with through these inspirational programmes.

The Mintridge Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to enhancing life skills in young people through sport. We provide a support network for young people by harnessing the power of positive sporting role models. The Mintridge Foundation assists young people of all ages, abilities and physical capabilities to develop confidence and resilience, and creates awareness of the importance of mental and physical wellbeing through sport.

Our team of Ambassadors  - Olympians, Paralympians and other professional sports stars from over 20 sports, both team and individual - work with young people in schools, clubs and academies across the UK. Starting with visits including assemblies, coaching clinics and classroom sessions tailored to each organisation’s requirements, our ambassadors can then provide one- on- one remote mentoring in a safeguarded environment, delivered via technology such as Fitswarm and Playwaze to build a lasting legacy for individuals.

The Mintridge Foundation’s successes demonstrate the incredible power of sport; from a mentee’s selection to represent Great Britain in their chosen field to enabling disabled children to find confidence and happiness just through participation. Understanding life after sport, we also support our Ambassadors in their transition from active sport to the next stage of their careers.
