The Mintridge Foundation joins #GivingTuesday 2021, the global day of generosity taking place on 30 November & the #SmallBusinessStar Christmas fundraising campaign

The Mintridge Foundation is thrilled to announce that we’re one of the thousands of organisations taking part in this year’s #GivingTuesday campaign, to be held on 30th November. Furthermore, we’re one of hundreds of organisations taking part in this year’s #SmallBusinessStar campaign, a festive fundraising opportunity for small businesses to work for good and raise money for charities they love.

How is the Mintridge Foundation going to do it?

DETERMINED to end 2021 in the most positive way possible, the Mintridge Foundation, a registered charity dedicated to enhancing life skills in young people through sport, wants to continue to make a difference, despite the challenges that we have faced through the Covid-19 Pandemic.

To do this, we are looking for small businesses to become a #smallbusinesstar, shining extra brightly with Minty’s Advent Calendar, building on the success of 2020.

PS Minty is the beloved mascot of the Mintridge Foundation.  She always has so many ideas about how to stay active. You can check some of them out on our website.

We want to shine a light on purposeful businesses. We will help both small businesses and the charity sector to have long term sustainability while getting all of that Christmas shopping done at the same time!

Profit and purpose – that sounds like a win – win to us! Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy, and after all, those Ambassadors of ours always talk about the benefits of teamwork!

We would like businesses to purchase one of Minty’s Advent Tickets and publicly pledge your #BounceBack support for the Mintridge Foundation on Giving Tuesday (but hurry, there are only 24 spots available).

In doing so, your organisation will receive:

Some yummy Nibble.

One of Minty’s Advent doors (assigned randomly and opened on the Mintridge social channels each morning in December). When your door is opened, the Mintridge Foundation will shout from the roof tops about the amazing work that you do (to our supporters, Ambassadors and through all of our online channels). The exciting news is that Minty has hidden a Golden Ticket and one lucky organisation will receive 2 tickets to see one of our Ambassadors live!

What Can Your #BounceBack Pledge be?

We would love your support in whatever way you or your organisation can!

1) Become Minty’s Business Star

Your small business can help us make a BIG difference. Please support us by donating a £ or % from the sales of your products or services to the Mintridge Foundation. Pledge your donation today in a legal, simple and sustainable way via our Work for Good page.

…And the best news of all…

Work For Good will double your donation (up to the value of £250) from Monday 6th December onwards. Sign up for free at Work For Good (if you haven’t already done so) referencing The Mintridge Foundation when prompted.

2) Become Minty’s Advocate

Here at Mintridge HQ, we love to sprinkle the stardust of our sporting stars everywhere! With this in mind, the small wins are very important to us. Can you shout about us on social media? Can you share our challenge calendar or our Easyfundraising Shopping channel within your organisation?

3) Become Minty’s Challenger

If you are happy to get out there and attend events physically then this year is a great chance to get back in the swing of in-person events and face-to-face Giving and challenges. Could you encourage your colleagues to sign up to a mass participation event?

Master Bread Baker? Put your lockdown baking skills to good use by having your own bake sale at your office. If you're feeling competitive, try challenging colleagues to a charity bake off .

4) Become Minty’s Active Traveller

REPAY YOUR COMMUTE? Encourage your colleagues to GiveBack the cost of your commute for one day/week/month and encourage travel via bike or foot. Working from home? Head outside at lunchtime and donate £1 for every mile completed.

5) Become Minty’s VIP

Increased knowledge, experience and resources will help the Mintridge Foundation better achieve our goals and we would love to hear from you should you feel this is an area that you can support. For example, do you have an employee with PR skills that would like to offer their help to our charity?

6) Become Minty’s Equipment Star

Would you like to help children get active beyond the pandemic? Minty' is on the search for some new equipment to ensure that our physical activities can be delivered in a safe and fun way! This can be through sponsorship or donations.

Work alongside Alex Wallace at the Mintridge Foundation to finalise how you intend to celebrate Giving Tuesday with Team Mintridge as a #SmallBusinessStar!

Minty will receive your generous funds and use it to HARNESS THE POWER OF POSITIVE SPORTING ROLE MODELS to encourage greater physical and mental wellbeing for young people as we move ahead to 2022.

Brought to the UK in 2014 by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), this year #GivingTuesday offers the opportunity to give back to good causes, either by donating to charity, reaffirming commitment to a cause, volunteering time or supporting others by simply helping a friend, neighbour or family member.

From providing established front line services like health support to the rise of local giving networks delivering food to their next door neighbours, over the last year the global pandemic has seen charities step up like never before, helping keep communities going across the country.

In the face of this rising demand, a number of charities have faced financial and social challenges as traditional fundraising opportunities have been shut off to them. Giving Tuesday is a chance to secure their future in the post-pandemic world.

Furthermore, the Small Business Star campaign was created by fundraising platform Work for Good in 2020 to help charities that faced financial challenges due to the pandemic whilst shining a light on the incredible small business community. This year #SmallBusinessStar offers nonprofits the chance to engage the UK’s growing community of philanthropic businesses and encourage them to continue fundraising for a cause they care about. Businesses are asked to raise money through the sales of their products or services whilst raising awareness of the cause they have chosen to support.

During the Coronavirus crisis small businesses showed incredible strength, ingenuity and altruism, many playing a huge part in supporting their communities through lockdown – from delivering food parcels to sewing face masks for some of the world’s poorest communities. This passion for using small business for good has continued and is growing with more small businesses than ever fundraising for charities through their sales.

The #SmallBusinessStar campaign is a chance for our charity, The Mintridge Foundation to build sustainable relationships with the incredible UK community of businesses that care about our cause and love to give back.

The Mintridge Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to enhancing life skills in young people through sport. We provide a support network for young people by harnessing the power of positive sporting role models. The Mintridge Foundation assists young people of all ages, abilities and physical capabilities to develop confidence and resilience, and creates awareness of the importance of mental and physical wellbeing through sport.

Our team of Ambassadors  - Olympians, Paralympians and other professional sports stars from over 20 sports, both team and individual - work with young people in schools, clubs and academies across the UK. Starting with visits including assemblies, coaching clinics and classroom sessions tailored to each organisation’s requirements, our ambassadors can then provide one- on- one remote mentoring in a safeguarded environment, delivered via technology to build a lasting legacy for individuals.

The Mintridge Foundation’s successes demonstrate the incredible power of sport; from a mentee’s selection to represent Great Britain in their chosen field to enabling disabled children to find confidence and happiness just through participation. Understanding life after sport, we also support our Ambassadors in their transition from active sport to the next stage of their careers.

In 2020 #GivingTuesday was the top trending item on UK Twitter and generated more than 360 million impressions. In the UK, more than £20 million was raised in online donations, more than ever before.

Andy Frain, #GivingTuesday UK Lead at the CAF, adds:

“We’re all looking forward to moving on from the pandemic as soon as it is safe to do so, but it’s so important we remember the work done to help keep communities going over the last year and a half.

Giving Tuesday is a great chance to Give Back to the charities and causes that we care about, and thank them for overcoming some immense challenges over the course of this pandemic.

“In one of our toughest years to date, we raised a magnificent £3,500 with our Giving Tuesday campaign in 2020 and we are determined to raise that number again while also showcasing the magnificent business community that are supporting our economy when it is needed most.”
— Alex Wallace, The Mintridge Foundation

People can Give in so many ways and we’re always amazed at the diversity of people’s generosity – whether it is donating money, volunteering time or just amplifying your support for a charity, any act of Giving can make all the difference to a cause you care about.”

In 2020 #SmallBusinessStar generated more than £145,000 in donations from small businesses. In 2020 the campaign was supported by organisations including Small Business Britain, the Federation of Small Businesses and the Charity Excellence Framework.

Veronica Bamford-Deane, Managing Director of Work for Good, adds It’s absolutely wonderful seeing how businesses choose to give through their sales and fantastic that so many charities are welcoming small business sales fundraising as a sustainable way to raise much needed income.

Last year it was fabulous seeing the creativity and purpose from the UK small business community, including a seasonal jam created by an indie food business and a letter writing brand who created magical memories for children.

These businesses give from the heart, putting passion into what they do and are proud to be fundraising for the charities they believe in“.

Notes to Editors

A global phenomenon, #GivingTuesday has broken successive world records for the most money donated online to charity.

#GivingTuesday began in America in 2012 as a way to give back after the well-known shopping days of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It was brought to the UK by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) in 2014 with the aim of encouraging people to think of others in the run up to Christmas.

In 2020 leading charities and brands supported the day including Natwest Group, PayPal and Salesforce.

Work for Good launched in February 2018 and helps small businesses raise funds for charity through the sales of their products and services and takes care of the added legal complexities which come with sales-based fundraising.

They do this through their fundraising platform - www.workforgood.co.uk - that makes it simple and legal for small businesses to pledge donations to charity and publicise their fundraising campaigns, unlocking this untapped sustainable income for charities.

If 1 in 20 small businesses donated just 1% of income, it would create £1billion of charitable funding every year.

2% of charitable income currently comes from businesses compared to 43% from individuals. Work for Good focuses on raising awareness about the huge potential the UK’s 5.7 million small businesses have for charity income generation.
