England Rugby Inspire A Generation in the TikTok Women's Six Nations

Wow – how privileged are we to have been part of a record-breaking crowd at the TikTok Women’s Six Nations this month as England Rugby soared home to beat Ireland 69 – 0. How can you make that even more special for Team Mintridge? Well, here we go…

Ex England Rugby player and proud Mintridge Ambassador, Justine Lucas was able to enjoy the match with her Warboys Primary School mentees showcasing what opportunities she was granted with her sport through discipline, hard work and having fun!

That’s not all, oh nooooo, check out these videos below to see how Justine announced a little match day surprise for her mentees; they were to be mascots on the day. What an opportunity and thank you very much to Amy Cokayne and England Rugby for such a fantastic opportunity (and of course, the snazzy kit!!). This is something that our mentees will never forget and has planted a seed of what sport can bring.

Upon arrival, our mentees made their way pitch side to run through their roles before they joined the best players across England and Ireland for the national anthems with an important role of bearing the England flags. Nerves were settled and upon the return, beaming smiles greeted us as they made their way to their seats to enjoy the spectacle that England put on display for everyone in Leicester.

Justine was laughing and joking with her mentees (who she speaks to on a fortnightly basis online) as they enjoyed each other’s company in person with their families for the first time since Justine’s visit to Warboys Primary School as part of Mintridge’s Anti Bullying Week Programme. As play drew to a close, it was time for one of our favourite parts of the day!

AUTOGRAPHS!

Justine, please can we take you to every sporting fixture that we go to? Our mentees were like a magnet for the victorious players afterwards as you were able to call them over through the crowd and answer some great questions too! Thank you! We particularly loved seeing Zoe Harrison, England’s fly half who had a great boot throughout the match and kept that scoreboard ticking. She’s also a Team Mintridge Ambassador, so we are ever so slightly biased! Zoe & Justine, thank you for meeting our Max Hunter Fund mentee, Megan who was also in the crowd with her Rugby Club. What a day, making so many connections for Team Mintridge!

We loved seeing how all of the players took so much time with the crowd – the role of a selfie should never be underestimated in our eyes!

Justine – you are a true advocate for your sport and we are privileged to have you as an Ambassador for our charity. Thank you!

The Mintridge Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to enhancing life skills in young people through sport. We provide a support network for young people by harnessing the power of positive sporting role models. The Mintridge Foundation assists young people of all ages, abilities and physical capabilities to develop confidence and resilience, and creates awareness of the importance of mental and physical wellbeing through sport.

Our team of Ambassadors  - Olympians, Paralympians and other professional sports stars from over 20 sports, both team and individual - work with young people in schools, clubs and academies across the UK. Starting with visits including assemblies, coaching clinics and classroom sessions tailored to each organisation’s requirements, our ambassadors can then provide one- on- one remote mentoring in a safeguarded environment, delivered via technology to build a lasting legacy for individuals.

The Mintridge Foundation’s successes demonstrate the incredible power of sport; from a mentee’s selection to represent Great Britain in their chosen field to enabling disabled children to find confidence and happiness just through participation. Understanding life after sport, we also support our Ambassadors in their transition from active sport to the next stage of their careers.

If you would like to understand more about our mentoring programmes with elite athletes and how they can support the young people at your school or club, please contact Katie Smith.
