JOE HARRIS

Javelin

Joe started his sporting career in the Isle of Man, trying many different sports but it was javelin that Joe’s talents and passions fell. His gift for throwing was quickly snapped up when he was invited to train full time at the head of British Athletics in Loughborough University.

Whilst training at Loughborough, Joe had access to world class coaching and facilities and soon climbed his way up the UK rankings. Finishing his 2017 season winning the English championships by throwing a massive PB of 75.71m and coming third in the British Championships.

In 2018, Joe had the amazing opportunity to compete down under at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. He ended his season on a high throwing 74.11m at the European throwing cup.

His 2019 season hit back with some challenges, struggling to find a coach and a shoulder injury, he finished his season on a low. With 2020 quickly coming up and a still painful shoulder Joe took the brave decision to take the year of to recover fully. With Covid-19 quickly making it near on impossible to access any gyms or athletics tracks it became apparent that Joe’s decision to take the year off had worked in his favour.

With 2021 fast approaching it was time for Joe to ease himself back into competitive javelin. Joe started his season at the track he is now training in Kettering with a big 68.63m. It was clear that the year out had made all the difference. Quickly making his mark, Joe threw a whopping 72.65m to come second by only one centimetre at the British championships and came first later in the season at the English championships.

It is clear Joe’s love for javelin has returned and we are looking forward to seeing him compete at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games for the Isle of Man.
